Yoga of the Heart
An eight-class series for people living with or recovering from disease
This class seeks to get to the heart of the disease process and reduce the level of deeply held stress to facilitate the body's own healing capabilities. It consists of gentle asana (done in a chair for those who need), breathwork, deep relaxation and meditation.
The class is appropriate for people suffering from cardiac disease, cancer or other life-altering illnesses, or for anyone with a family history or other risk factors for these diseases. You must able to climb one flight of stairs.
Stress is considered a major contributor to the
development and progression of disease.
Yoga has been shown to reduce stress and
thereby reduce the severity of some of the symptoms of diseases.
Taught by Diane “Padma”
Halford, a Registered Nurse since 1986. Padma became a Registered Yoga Teacher with the Yoga Alliance in the Ashtanga tradition in May 2004. She has had the grace to study with yoga masters in the US and India. Most recently with training in Yoga of the Heart with Nischala Joy Devi. Padma has dedicated her life to the study and practice of Yoga. Her passion is sharing her knowledge and experiences with her students. Padma’s nurturing teaching style opens the heart to acceptance, compassion and joy. She encourages her students to experience santosha (contentment), understanding that yoga meets you where you are, then takes you beyond your limits. Padma continues to deepen her understanding of yoga and spirituality through ongoing study.
