Can I still sign up even though the deadline has passed?
Yes, you may still apply to the program up until the day the program begins, provided there is still space available. Once the program is full, you will be placed on a waiting list and notified if space clears.
What can I do with my certification once I complete the course?
As a Certified Yoga Teacher, you may choose to teach at a yoga studio, gym, fitness facility or any place that offers yoga. You are encouraged to continue to learn more about yoga as it is an endless study, but you will be well-prepared to lead an hour-long yoga class safely, complete with adjustments and modifications. Although we will be emphasizing the poses of the Ashtanga Primary Series, your training will not limit you to teaching this style of yoga. TOP
What are the certification criteria for this course?
Attendance at all of the program sessions and completion of all the reading assignments is required for successful completion of this course. TOP
What credentials will I receive upon the successful completion of this course?
Successful Teacher Trainees will be awarded a "Certificate of Completion" from Yoga Hawaii, and can use the words "Certified Yoga Teacher" in their promotional materials. They will also be able to register with the Yoga Alliance (www.yogaalliance.org) and use the Registry Mark (200) and the letters RYT (registered yoga teacher) after their names. TOP
What if I cannot attend some of the sessions?
If certification criteria are not met (i.e., attendance to all the sessions and completion of all the reading assignments), Teacher Trainees will receive a "Certificate of Acknowledgement" until such time as successful completion of the missed material is ascertained. Assignment of make-up material is at the discretion of the training director and must be completed within one month of the end of the training. TOP

How can I learn the Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series?
There are a number of different resources available for learning the sequence used in the Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series. Obviously the best way is to find a teacher locally who can guide you in learning the sequence safely. If that's not available, you can go to amazon.com and buy one of several DVDs on the market: David Swenson's "Ashtanga Yoga First Series," Mark Darby's "Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series" or Sarah Powers' "1st Series." You may find others that appeal to you as well. The important thing is to memorize the sequence. You can do this with a book as well but a DVD will be very useful to see the vinyasas that connect the poses. TOP
What are the supplemental texts and where do I buy them?
You will need the following textbooks in order to complete your reading assignments:
• Yoga Mala by K. Pattabhi Jois
• John Scott's "Ashtanga Yoga" (the Japanese version)
• David Swenson's "A Practice Manual" (for the photos)
• Patanjali's Yoga Sutras (any version)
• Ray Long, MD FRCSC,'s Scientific Keys, Vol. 1: The Key Muscles of Hatha Yoga
Will I need more hours once the training is completed?
No additional hours will be required once you have successfully completed this 200-hour training in order to receive your "Certificate of Completion" from Yoga Hawaii and to register with the Yoga Alliance (www.yogaalliance.org). TOP
