Green Yoga
A guided exploration with Melissa Bos
Fridays: May 30, June 27, July 25, August 29, 2008;
6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Join Honolulu’s first-ever Green Yoga series! The philosophies of yoga and environmentalism have numerous parallels. Both teach a respectful, nonconsumptive, nonharming, abundant way of life. Green Yoga is perfect for yogis seeking a deeper connection to the earth, and for environmentalists seeking a deeper philosophy and personal practice. Learn about pressing environmental issues and how you can make a positive impact. Each class will be held at the Yoga Hawaii studio on the last Friday of the month from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Each session will combine discussion, asana, and meditation. Optional seva projects, such as volunteering an organic farm and a beach clean-up, will be offered to series participants.
The Sanskrit word ‘asana’ means seat.
Seat means connection to the earth.
Earth means all beings and all things.
The practice of asana is refining your connection to the earth.

Friday, May 30: From the Cell to Gaia
How can connecting with your core teach you about connecting with the Earth? Yoga helps us journey inward to find our core and grounding. It also helps us look outward and understand how we are connected to everything around us.
Friday, June 27: Ha, The Breath of Life
Learn how air and water are the universal life-supporters and connectors. What positive and negative signals are we sharing through fluid medium? Why are clean fluids essential to planetary survival, and what can you do about it?
Friday, July 25: Nonconsumptive Prosperity
Be present, don’t buy presents! Learn how eliminating the clutter of material goods in your life can lead to peace, prosperity, and a healthier planet.
Friday, August 29: Ahimsa and Abundance
How can a nonviolent, vegetarian lifestyle lead to greater human and environmental health? Did you know that decreasing your intake of animal products is the single greatest way to decrease your negative impact on the earth? Ancient yogis may have understood this great truth.
